I personally have no problem with more nuclear power... as an energy source it is one of the most efficient, the only issue as the article says is what to do with nuclear waste.  If we can find a good way to take care of it, it would make it even more popular.

Yucca Mountain has been more or less shut down due to lack of funding.  The French have been remanufacturing spent nuclear fuel rods for many many many years, there is no reason why we can't do it to.

Exactly. I'm strongly in favor of nuclear power, as it has cut the price of electicity, and provided for years an ample and reliable source of power. This said, all is not rosy in France... it looks like EDF (Electricite De France)  has somewhat neglected its nuclear pool, and the aging plants need to be updated or replaced, a lot of them at the same time. That's why we had some power shortages for the first time in decades this winter...  Sad

I am pro-nuclear power as well, although really I'm just pro-everything-that-isn't-coal, but I found this to be a welcome move as well.

I've been a proponent of nuclear power for decades. With a well-engineered facility, nuclear power is safe, clean, and abundant. As for what to do with the spent fuel rods, it has been rediculously stupid that the US is not reusing valuable spent fuel rods. Burrying them in the desert is wasting valuable energy.

[rant] As for what to do with the long-term disposal of the unusable waste products, we spent $9 billion on developing the Yukka Mountain Complex, only to have congress defund it due to political pressure from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. (one of the reasons I can't stand that he's one of my two senators) So now we're going to have spend billions more to find a new location that is as equally suited as someplace right next to where we've already dropped 100 actual live nukes on and detonated over 900 more underground for 40 years. [/rant]

YMMV as always. Lips Sealed
