25 Years of Battletech Art & Fiction
on: August 15, 2009, 09:03:53 PM

I got the pdf of this book yesterday and so far I am very pleased with it.

Some of my very favorite art is in it (first thing I looked for was the 1st Edition Battleforce cover art  Afro ).

A very cool surprise for me was the wealth of fiction! I hadn't expected their to be as many stories as there are. And one by William H. Keith Jr!

And an early Cabellero's story by Milan.  Cool  A really good Star Adder / Blood Spirit story by Bills.

There are 18 stories in total and I've only read 5 thus far.

Totally worth it, though I do not know the changes that will be made now that some of the unseen are still unseen.

Still not happy about that.

I have a copy of the PDF before it was changed because of the unseen/reseen issue.  So, *shrugs*

My dead tree copy reached me yesterday. I must say it's living up to my expectations. Art is terrific (loads of old art, as well as excerptssof still unpublished books), and gives a good sampling of the way artists have portrayed the Battletech Universe. Sometimes, they even contradict themselves, just have a look at how "toads" are rendered throughout BT history. Kudos too for the Natasha Kerensky double page, which did not expurge the controversial "Tales of the Black Widow " cover art, but displayed it alongside the "reworked" version.
Going through the various short stories, they are a good mix, and representative of the various trends of BT fiction : mech combat with Ozymondias, or planetary exploration with StarFire. Well worth my money.

i even got this book cheaper just because i had not sufficient money.

i havent read it yet, but there is no short-story centered on a planet of the FWL? you can see the banners of many factions, but the league is not one of them. not that i mind very much, the stories are great, but something on house marik would have been nice
