Doomed to Repeat History
on: May 21, 2007, 07:52:30 PM

Hey all.

Given the current stalled/quasi-dead status of "Stillness Before the Storm", is anyone interested in a new game/story?

I'm thinking about something set during the Andurien crisis.  Tech would be limited to 98% level 1, and only limited level 2 tech on a very rare basis.

We have several possible sides to choose from.
  1. Marik Loyalists
  2. Andurien Separatists
  3. Magistracy troops allied to the Anduriens
  4. Capellan Confederation Military
  5. Corporate Interests and/or merchant houses
  6. Mercenaries affiliated with any or all or the above.
  7. Pirates (Not my preference)
  8. Com-Star "observers"

Is anyone interested?

I've been thinking about something like this myself since I got my hands on a copy of Brush Wars.

"Good news!  I've decided not to KILL you!"
— Stewie, "Family Guy"

"But sir, I can't even turn on a woman!  How in the hell do you expect me to pilot a 'Mech?"
— Last words of an aspiring Lyran social-general

"The [Free Worlds] League is an acquired taste, but one indicative of a refined gaming palate.  It requires subtlety and imagination to play as a Leaguer.  It's no shame on them that they are so few in number; rather, shame on us."
— Neko Bijin

“Davion components. Capellan components. All same. Made in Free Worlds League!”
— Sergei Ivanovich, Chief Tech, Tooth of Ymir Mercenary Regiment

Well, that's two players.

Any preference for faction?

I'm thinking we try to keep the "Unit" as small as possible, with as few NPC's as we can reasonably use.  If only for simplicity.  For example, if we only get three or four players, we should probably stay at Lance size at least for the first bit.

What I have in mind right now, is that the PC's will be loyalist former members of  a "Defenders of Andurien" unit.  When the secession came, they grabbed their mechs, and bolted for Marik Loyalist space, possibly grabbing a Leopard class DS as transport.

Unfortunately, SAFE doesn't trust them, due to previous attempts by the Anduriens to infiltrate spies and such.  SAFE also doesn't have any real proof, just suspicions, so has not arrested them.  They also have not made any effort to integrate them into another unit.  Instead they are used as "Hole Pluggers", given dirty jobs and generally treated like bastard stepchildren.  They might also have gotten tired of such treatment and thought about going Merc.  No firm decisions made yet.

Any thoughts?

Sounds interesting, if a bit on the "nail biting" edge.

Anyone else?

Well, Albatross, unless someone else steps forward, it's looking like you and me.  Still interested?

Let me get back to you.  A family (read: medical) emergency has kept me tied up.

Still looking for players

Hey all!  I'm still looking for interested parties.   Don't worry about your writing skill.  The idea is to have fun and see what we come up with.

If people prefer, I can run this more like a traditional RPG, with myself as the GM, but a free-form round robin works just as well.  All I need is a couple players.

What exactly does this involve? Roleplaying or story writing? I'm not sure I understand what you're doing here.  Undecided

I would be more interested in a more traditional style game. I don't mind free form games but I don't like other players writing for my character.

I'm not even sure he is still doing this as the thread is from a year ago. I was just curious what it was all about

Actually, I've been playing over here: http://www.battletech-mercenaries.com/

C'mon over and check us out.  Most of the merc groups are always looking for good mech-jocks, and the Black Stars are looking for not so good ones too.
