About the House Marik Web Site

The Free Worlds League is one of the main factions of the BattleTech universe, second to none in importance among the original six primary factions—the others being the Federated Suns, Draconis Combine, Capellan Confederation, Lyran Commonwealth, and the Order of ComStar.  The League today has the strongest, best trained, best equipped, best funded and most cohesive military force in existance.  However, it was not always so.  For years it was a fractured, balkanized realm, its component forces fighting amongst themselves as much as they fought their enemies.  The League also did not receive the amount (or quality) of attention by the authors or the owners, which at the time caused the majority of the fans to not only choose other factions, but also to ridicule the League at every opportunity, and then some.  Even today, the League is still looked down upon, though it has gained a newfound sense of purpose by becoming the secondary faction of choice.

The rising fortunes in player representation has been both a boon and a curse.  Most of the players who have found a home in the Free Worlds find they can never truely leave.  It feels too much like home at times—one never wants to be there, but at the same time yearns to return to the sanctuary when they leave.  Unfortunately it is that very sense of "home" that threatens to evoke the worst of the player community.  Several people have begun running campaigns that emphasize the League's past, carving out their own little empires out of the League rather than defending the virtues of unity, liberty, justice, and opportunity for all—virtues that define the Free Worlds League.  Perhaps the lack of attention by the authors (things tend to become rather nasty when the authors do look towards our little corner of the universe—take the upcoming Word of Blake jihad for example—it is supposed to finally rip the League asunder once and for all) has something to do with that?  Enough of that though.  How can one promote the Free Worlds League by talking about all the bad things that have happened and will continue to happen?

That is why this site was created.  It is our mission to provide a haven for those weary travelers who want nothing more than solid ground to place their feet on after a long journey through the emptiness of the deep interstellar void.  That is why we are providing more than a brief overview of the League as it is today—we are committed to creating a vast resource dedicated to properly running scenarios and campaigns set in the Free Worlds League.  We intend to resurrect the sense of unity and purpose that the League has been missing since its earliest days by providing information on military structure, formations, strategies and tactics, in addition to a rich background that accurately portrays the Free Worlds—not as some balkanized back-water federation that revels in waging civil wars at every family reunion (a farce if you ask us), while the strongest economy in human history somehow manages to survive despite having the highest illiteracy rates in known space (another lie), and a large space-faring navy with tissue paper for armor (okay, that may be somewhat true to a certain extent, but we deploy our WarShips in fleets, and give them the best support possible, rather than sending them out piecemeal like stray sheep to be slaughtered by the wolves), but rather as the lone superpower capable of charting its own destiny, capable of obliterating anyone and anything that interferes with its bottom line—making money and protecting its citizens.  The Free Worlds League is a mercantile and military superpower capable of not only removing threats to its bottom line, but also its future as well.  Facing the Free Worlds League on the field of battle is a mistake one does not wish to make, for he surely will not survive to learn from it.

Enough of the chit-chat though.  In the coming weeks and months, we will be producing several articles and essays on the proper execution of League operations—from start to finish—on a variety of topics, ranging from role-playing to force construction and deployment, as well as strategy and tactics.  We hope you enjoy this endeavour into the unknown, as we remove the shrouds of mythology and ignorance and replace them with truth, enlightenment and inspiration—the Marik way.

So please join us as we embark on our journey across the stars to reclaim our rightful place as the undisputed leaders of humanity's quest for the stars by registering for and participating in our forums.  You will not be disappointed by what you experience.
